Exotic Rescue Help
We accept several species of exotic animal surrenders - with no wait, no fees, and no judgment.
In our many years of Hedgie rescue work, we've heard from countless owners about how frustrating it can be to find a place to surrender pets that aren't dogs or cats. Some shelters may take rabbits or common rodents, but they typically will not take birds, reptiles, exotics, or livestock. And while there are some specialty rescues for certain species, they often require owners to pay surrender fees and get on a waitlist for a foster opening - neither of which are convenient for those who need to find immediate safe shelter for their pets during emergency situations or who are experiencing financial hardship. Because of this, we began taking in many other types of animals when needed - with no surrender fees, no wait, and no judgment. Many animals remain here with us indefinitely, often joining us for the educational animal programs we teach at local schools. Others will stay here until they've completed their quarantine period, vet checks, and temperament assessments - and then we will begin screening possible homes. We have decades of experience with most exotics - as well as excellent veterinarians and a large network of other exotic rescuers and highly experienced repeat adopters.
Exotic MammalsWe're willing to take in all small exotics/pocket pets (I.e Chinchillas, Sugar Gliders, Tenrecs, STOs, Degus, Flying Squirrels, etc). Medium sized Exotics (like Opossums, Raccoons, Skunks, Kinkajous, Coatis) may be accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on aggression level. For larger exotics or anything not covered above, reach out explaining your specific situation and we will let you know if we can help.
BirdsWe have 30+ years of experience with exotic birds and currently have an entire floor of our home dedicated to our six birds who have free flight during the day. Parakeets, Cockatiels, Lovebirds, Conures, and other small exotic birds are accepted in all cases. Larger exotic birds such as Cockatoos and Macaws will generally be accepted too unless there are severe aggression issues.

ReptilesWe're generally willing to take in most Tortoises, Bearded Dragons, Uromastyx, Iguanas, Geckos, and Anoles. We do not handle Snakes, larger carnivorous reptiles, or anything that requires a rodent-based diet. We do know some great reptile rescuers in the area though so if we cannot help you, we will likely be able to refer you to somebody else who can.
*We unfortunately can't help with fish or aquatic animals. LivestockWe can take in chicks, adult hens (no adult roos), pigeons, doves, ducklings, quail, juvenile turkeys, piglets, goat kids, and similar small livestock. For any needs pertaining to large livestock (i.e full size pigs, adult goats, equines, adult turkeys/roosters/peafowl/geese/etc.), we can refer you to one of the many livestock sanctuaries we work with in the area in the hopes that they may be able to help.
