Boarding
If you're looking for experienced hedgehog owners to babysit your hedgie while you're away, we are always here! Whether you'll be gone for just the weekend or for weeks to months, we are more than happy to help. While your hedgehog is here, we will bathe them, clip their nails, renew their Revolution mite preventative, apply an oil treatment if they have dry skin, clean their cage and wheel as needed, wash and dry any of their fleece/fabric supplies, and give them lots of love and attention.
How much do we charge? We charge $10 a day but are flexible. If you need boarding for more than just a weekend, we usually do not charge for day of drop off or day of pick up. If it's a long stay lasting weeks, we're happy to round it down or lower the daily rate.
*Note: If you are ever in an emergency situation (such as a hospitalization or housing crisis) and cannot afford boarding costs, reach out and let us know what's going on. In those cases that are more "emergency fostering" than "boarding", we can help at low or no cost. What do we need to know?Through text or a written/printed note, please provide us your phone number and the age, sex, and name of your Hedgehog as well as any recent medical issues, history of biting, and any preferences they have for certain bedding, treats, toys, etc.
Please let us know the exact day and times you plan to drop them off or pick them up and confirm those times with us on the day of so we can ensure somebody is home. |
What should you bring? If your hedgehog isn't on the Blue Buffalo Tastefuls Chicken & Rice recipe our hedgies are on, please bring a bag of your current food (with enough to last their whole stay) because a rapid food switch can make a hedgie sick.
Besides that, you are welcome to bring as much or as little of your hedgehog's supplies as you'd like. If you have a lightweight tote cage, you can bring the hedgie and their whole cage. If your cage is large or heavy, you can just bring your hedgie in a carrier and we will house them in one of our extra totes during their stay. We've noticed that many of them adjust better when they have some of their own supplies with them, so you may want to pack at least a few familiar things. (But if you don't, it's not a problem. We have more than enough extra igloos, wheels, dishes, sleeping bags, etc.) Heaters aren't needed, we have many on hand. We encourage you to label your hedgie's cage and containers of food/supplies to ensure nothing gets mixed up during times when we are boarding multiple hedgies. |
What if your hedgie needs medication? We've had multiple instances where hedgies in need of boarding were on antibiotics/anti-inflammatories for a recent injury, required hand-fed wet food or Critical Care formula due to dental issues/old age, needed topical moisturizing oil treatments due to skin issues, etc. This is all fine with us!* Please bring whatever medications and supplies your hedgie needs and let us know how much and how often they need it.
*The only things that may present a problem are communicable issues such as Upper Respiratory Infections, Mites, or Fungal Infections. If your hedgie is experiencing anything that can spread to our other hedgies (or if you see possible signs of these issues), reach out to us with some more information about your current situation and we'll let you know if we can watch them, and if so if there is any specific protocol for drop off. |
